The weather is getting warmer here in Texas and that can only mean one thing in my world...more Engagement Sessions!! Your e-session is such an important experience for you, your fiancé, and also for me! It allows me to get to know you, how you respond to direction, what your best poses are, and how to make your wedding day photography that much more fun! Which is why I always include an engagement session in my wedding packages - they're very necessary!
I want to give a brief overview of a few tips that will help you get more out of your engagement session!
Choosing Your Outfits
There's a ton of inspiration out there (hello Pinterest!) when it comes to outfit inspiration, but be sure whatever you find is also something you will be comfortable and confident in. Being confident during your engagement session is so important - I can tell if you're uncomfortable and it will show in your photos, too! Be sure to choose something that is your style and that makes you feel good and flatters your figure! Rent the Runway and Space 46 Boutique are some of my favorites for dressier pieces for engagement shoots!
You should also look for outfits that compliment one another, not ones that are too matchy-matchy (i.e. don't wear the same color shirt and jeans, etc). Most of my clients opt for two different options, a dressy outfit and a casual outfit. This will give you more variety in your photos!
Professional Hair & Make-Up
This is a GREAT time for you to use your trial with your makeup artist for your wedding! There's something about getting your hair and makeup done that makes you feel pampered, which in turn is relaxing and evokes confidence because you know you look incredible! Professional make-up can really make a world of difference in your photos! This is also a great time to spend time with your hair & makeup vendors and get to know them and how they work so you know what you're going to experience on your wedding day. If it were up to me, you'd also add a flower crown or a gorgeous bouquet that adds a delicate touch to your overall look!
Choosing Your Location
I love when my couples choose locations with sentimental value to them! Here are some questions to ask yourself to get your wheels turning: Where did you two first meet? Have your first date? First kiss? First I love you? You will be much more comfortable in a place that brings back a fond memory and you'll likely be much more lovey with each other too! I will also have recommendations of locations if you need them, but I will try to help you find a place that means something to you as well!
When you're planning your engagement session, there is so much inspiration out there it can be overwhelming! You can easily start planning an engagement session to appeal to others, but the most important part is making your session true to who you are as a couple! If you two have a tradition to go for ice cream every Friday, why not include that as a location and make it fun! In a time where our personal lives are plastered all over social media, it can be hard to remember to be yourself - keep that in mind while you're planning and you won't regret the outcome!
Make it a Date!
Your engagement session is going to be full of love and intimate moments (and a lot of fun!). Why not make a date night out of it? Go for drinks, dinner or ice cream after (Are you seeing an ice cream trend here?!)! Bring that bottle of champagne you were gifted for your engagement and crack it open during your shoot! It's always fun to celebrate the little things, and rocking your engagement session is definitely something to celebrate!
